In this brief from an asylum case based on domestic violence, DHS states that it is possible that applicants who have experienced domestic violence could qualify for asylum based on alternative social group formations, and proposes two formulations under which victims of domestic violence might be able to advance asylum claims.
Notice to all Aliens including LPR ’s and Non-Residents: Biometric Collection upon Exiting United States
The Department of Homeland Security has initiated a Biometric Data Collection program upon exiting the US at certain Air ports of Departure (currently in Atlanta, Georgia and Detroit, Michigan. This program is intended to integrate an automated entry-exit system that records the arrival and departure of aliens, verifies aliens’ identities and authenticates aliens’ travel documents through the comparison of biometric identifiers. The government intended to establish an exit program at all air and sea ports of departure in the U.S. (73 FR 22056).
Aliens subject to notice are those whose entry is specified at 8 CFR 235.1(f)(1)(ii)
